TOOLS |
Materializing pieces of furniture was once the pure ability of the human hand to handle tools.
From primitive wooden versions to current metal versions, the Antarte Museum is a journey through centuries of evolution of these artifacts.
Around 1000 tools tell centuries of the history of an ancient craft that has so far been little documented.
From cutting, measuring and drilling, discover the visual appeal of these functional objects. Be fascinated by the timeless garlopas, tools for shaping and smoothing wood that have evolved over centuries. |
MACHINES |
Turning, drilling and sawing are tasks that changed considerably with the advent of machinery resulting from the Industrial Revolution.
Have you ever imagined an 18th century drilling machine?
Or a wood turning lathe that is over 200 years old?
Did you know that ancient jigsaws were pedal-operated?
Marvel at examples of these machines manufactured in the 19th century in Germany or the United States.
Also discover how the electrification of woodworking machinery accompanied the replacement of wood by metal in the bodies of these artefacts. |
